Little Fairy Penguins are the smallest species of Penguins, and I sketched this little guy who lives with mates at Featherdale Zoo in Western Sydney. Living naturally around the shoreline of Australia in colonies to sleep at night and to raise their chicks, they communicate with each other via 9 different sounds. They are dedicated parents to start but once the chick is old enough the parents slack off and the chicks have to learn for themselves via instinct, how to swim, hunt and survive. Their biggest threat is humans really via our actions, predatory animals, pollution, rubbish, overfishing but they do still manage to live in Sydney harbour. Flightless birds whos wings have turned into flippers making them agile and fast in their favoured aquatic environment. Hunting in the oceans all day, they are carnivores that have no teeth! they have little ridge spines which face backwards to help the wigglely, slippery fish go down whole
