Majestic Wedge-Tail Eagles, or ‘Wedgies’ as my family call them, are Australias largest eagle with a standing height of 1m and a wingspan up to 2.8m! The name comes from the wedge shape of their tail feathers.
Their eyes can see a bigger range of colours than humans and their large strong talons can lift 50% of their body weight, sometimes hunting in groups to catch larger prey. They usually swoop down to hunt and efficiently catch their live prey, but when travelling in wedge-tail eagle territory, care must be taken on roadsides as the eagles can be attracted to roadkill.
