Australia’s largest flying bird is the Pelican. With a wingspan of up to 3m, they soar in thermal currents, covering large distances, remaining in the air for up to 24hrs.
Australian Pelicans have the longest bill in the world, can catch several fish at the same time and with their 3 stomachs, are able to digest the fish they swallow whole. Their desalination glands enable them to drink seawater.
Pelican are social birds living in large colonies and breed on mass when conditions are favourable. You never really see baby Pelicans as they are adult size by 12wks old
